Supervisor, CFR Farm

The Supervisor, CFR Farm, is responsible for supporting the corporate Cane Farmer Relations and communications efforts in Corozal and Orange Walk by creating and leading a network of progressive type farmers, group leaders and field technical personnel to deploy key sugar industry messages and cane production agronomic projects. The Field Supervisor will also lead BSI projects efforts for cane farmers such as the recruitment and effective follow up of AgGrowPro farmer clients, Mechanical Harvesting and good harvesting planning. AgGrowPro is BSI’s, cane production and harvesting farm services. 

 Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Agriculture or related Sciences.  Rural Communication or related fields would be considered 

  • At least 2 years’ experience in Sugar Cane field extension or agronomic services

  • Driver license- Class A

 Skills and Competencies: 

  • Excellent communication and community relations skills, detail-oriented and ability to meet tight deadlines

  • Ability to use GPS, refractometers and other Sugar Cane related field equipment.

  • Fluency in Spanish and English

  • Positive attitude, ability to thrive under pressure and work with a team

  • Project writing skills would be an asset

  • Leadership skills

 Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and supervise the delivery of sugar cane production extension services through various channels, including farmer fields schools, digital and social media, one to one interactions, workshops, seminars etc.

  • Coordinate the delivery of technical recommendations and advice on sugar cane production best practices, harvesting and delivery and optimizing sugar cane quality.

  • Lead efforts among farmers in the use and function of the Sugar Industry Management Information System (SIMIS) for estimating sugar cane production, planning harvesting and delivery and promoting integrated pest control efforts.

  • Coordinate farmer recruitment and implementation efforts for BSI farmer projects such as AgGrowPro, Mechanical Harvesting Project and Women Farmer Field Schools

  • Implement sites in various cane farmer fields to monitor production, pest and disease concerns, cane varieties performance and harvesting and delivery practices.

  • Any additional responsibilities assigned by the immediate supervisor
